8-8-19 Freeport, ME

We left our campsite early because we needed to get the oil changed.  We called around but the dealership in Nashua is the only one that would let us come in without an appt.  We figured if we got there when they opened we would not have to wait too long.  Well, Sunnyside Acura in Nashua, NH was GREAT!  We got there at 7:00am and were out of there by 7:50am with rotated tires and an oil change.  They had a great waiting room, delicious coffee, and speedy wi-fi so we barely noticed the wait.  Our service guy Brian threatened to stow away in our camper so that he could experience Nova Scotia and Newfoundland so we got quite a chuckle out of that.

Our destination of they day was Freeport, ME  – a mere 2 hours away.  We chose Freeport because we had been there years ago when we lived in Boston, but for a very brief period and wanted to check it out again.  We were both soooo happy to know that we had such a short drive.  We were also excited to enter our 10th state of this trip AND get our first glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean.

While en route I did a bit of research and found a camping spot called Wolfe’s Neck.  We figured we could try to drop in and get a spot (given it was a Thursday – we would not have tried that on a Friday for fear we would have not been able to get ANY camping spot – too many people live on the east coast).  We were in luck and they had a spot.

Wolfe’s Neck is a huge property.  They have a farm with cows and pigs, an agricultural area where they are growing various crops (it includes a community garden), a Farm Café, a playground, kayaking, biking and probably other stuff that I cannot think of or did not know existed.

We quickly set up camp and then headed in to town so we could explore Freeport.  It was SOOOO busy.  We were glad to be there on Thursday.  I do not think being there on a weekend would be good.

We ate a delicious lunch at the Azure café – first clam chowder of the trip.

We walked around, took some obligatory shots near the LL Bean flagship store and did some shopping. I bought a new hiking hat.  You will see some pics of me sporting that new hat in the future.

After a short bout of shopping we were anxious to escape the “city life” of Freeport so we returned to Wolfe’s neck and went for a bike ride around the property.

Back at camp, we ate a small dinner (clam chowder is VERY filling) and admired our own ocean view right from our campsite.
