Tom and I figured that we should dip a toe at least in the East Side of Acadia. OMG!!!! I am so glad we did not camp on that side. A jillion people! We were so frustrated after just a couple of hours that we beat a fast retreat to our quiet side of the island. So….again, if you ever camp in Acadia – stay on the west side.
Before we exited the dreaded East side of the park we drove on the famous loop road. Most of the road is one way.

We visited Sandy beach where I put my feet in the water and was instantly transported back to the time many years ago (when Tom and I lived in Boston) and we took a 4 day schooner sailing trip around Maine. At one point they asked if anyone wanted to dive in the water. I said yes, jumped in and then desperately wish I could have hit rewind so that I was back on the boat. That is darn icy water.

The east side loop road has many pretty views of the ocean so we availed ourselves to as many as we could (considering the crowds of tourists and lack of parking).
We parked our car at the Visitor Center and were going to take a bus to Jacob’s Pond. When the bus arrived it was full and no one got off so no one could get back on. So much for the bus system – we gave up☹.
We couldn’t bear anymore of this kind of “fun” so we returned to “our side” of the island, ate lunch at Southwest Harbor (adorable little town), and spent some time using the wi-fi at their library – ahhh.
After that we returned to our campsite and had a peaceful time grilling bratwurst for dinner. This made me realize that I haven’t had enough bratwurst this summer. This is NOT the best time for me to realize that though as I am going to be in seafood country for the next several weeks and will have a hard time finding brats.

Thanks for the heads up on Acadia, hopefully the crowds won’t be as bad by the time we get there. However busy it may be it sounds like you are making the best of it.
Last brat 😁

Thanks for letting us know where to go, but, more importantly, where NOT to go. Don’t like crowds anywhere, so the beaches on the EC are off until mid-Sept. Beaches along the Atlantic during my DC summers were crazy.
