8-20-10 Cheticamp

Our plan is to meander along the Cabot trail on the west side (we basically started on the east side and are driving counter clockwise so the ocean is on the passenger side of the car) and camp at another Cape Breton National Park campground – Cheticamp.

If possible, the views on the west side of the Cabot Trail are even better.  Well, maybe not better but more rugged.

The road continues to be curvy and scenic.

There were many look-offs (yes I am now adopting the Canadian expression of look -rather than look-out) so we had multiple opportunities to gawk at the scenery.

I love the pic of this little inlet.  The only way to get down there is to hike.  Normally, we would have considered doing this hike, but the skies are indicating they are going to let loose at any moment.  We have plenty of rain gear, but do not want to slog through a muddy hike for hours.

This was my favorite look-off of the day.  Basically, you have everything here – ocean, cliffs, mountains and a great looking camping rig.

After setting up at our campground, we set off to explore the thriving metropolis of Cheticamp (population 3000).  Lunch at the Harbour Café was yummy (how can you go wrong with lobsters and scallops?) though the best part was the homemade strawberry shortcake – not quite as good as the blueberry cake from Lunenburg (yes I am still dreaming about that cake) but delicious nonetheless.

We wanted to open our new bottle of Canadian single-malt, but we like an ice cube in our scotch.  Conveniently, we have a tiny freezer in our camper so I am now freezing water in our ¼ cup measuring cup.  Tomorrow there shall be single malt at the campsite!
