9-2-19 Leaving Newfoundland

Alas, today is our day to leave Newfoundland (at least it is not our last day of our trip – we still have a month left).  We will drive from St. John’s to Argentia (about 1 ½ hours) to catch the ferry back to North Sydney, Nova Scotia (where our ferry to Newfoundland came from).  We are returning via a seasonal ferry from the other side of Newfoundland.  This ferry takes 16 hours (vs the 8 hours that the other ferry took), but it saves us 8 hours of driving across Newfoundland, plus ferries (particularly overnight ones) are fun!

It is another glorious day – I so wish that we were going on a hike today.  We were listening to the radio on the way to Argentia and the radio host said “Can you believe it – we have had 3 days in a row of sunshine?”  He was clearly amazed at the concept.  Tom and I are feeling spoiled with our 300+ days of sunshine a year in Denver.

Here is the ferry that will take us back to Nova Scotia tonight.

Here is pir cabin where we shall spend the night.  Seems luxurious since it has a bathroom with a shower.  We have been plodding over to community shower rooms in various campgrounds for the last month.

We waved good bye to Newfoundland…

…and soaked in our last views of this great place.  I wish I could go on this road or take a boat into this inlet.

When passing this area…

…I zoomed in on some structures I saw.  Tom and I have determined that these were either left by aliens or they are pillboxes from WWII – you can decide which explanation you prefer.

There is a lounge and entertainment on the ship so we were able to enjoy that for a while.

Good night friends, we will catch you tomorrow in Nova Scotia.
