Unfortunately, I woke up at around 5:00am on the ferry as it was rocking and rolling on the choppy sea. I laid in bed for a couple of hours because I knew seasickness would kick in as soon as I stood up. Around 6:00 am I grabbed a Dramamine. At 7:00am I grabbed some coffee – feeling better. Naturally, when Tom woke up around 7:30 the seas were calm again – not much sympathy. But that would not have mattered anyway because he never gets motion sickness (lucky guy).
We were one of the first vehicles off the ferry and we immediately set off for the Caribou ferry terminal for a ferry twofer. In planning this trip we didn’t think we’d have time to see Prince Edward Island (or PEI as everyone calls it). Today we shall prove ourselves wrong as that is our destination. I looked at the schedule and figured we’d barely miss the 1:00 ferry, but could definitely make the one at 2:45. I called to make a reservation, but they don’t take reservations for anything other than passenger cars and we, of course, have our trusty trailer. So, we figured we’d get there in time for first come/first serve on the 2:45 ferry. We made good time and arrived at 12:50 as they were loading up the 1:00 ferry. Tom asked if there was a chance that we’d get on the 1:00 ferry and she said “Yes, just wait in lane 10”. We waited as they filled up the ship as we sat despairing at getting on. Voila – we were the last car on!
A relaxing 75 minutes (and 1 unsatisfying cafeteria lunch later) we were in PEI!

PEI is a tiny island – the size of Delaware. It’s pretty flat, but very picturesque. It has a small national park so we headed there

The park has mostly shut down for the season and there is no staff around anywhere. It is self-pay. We, of course, paid, but I sense that no one would know the difference. PEI National Park is a long and narrow strip of land along the ocean at the northern end of the island. We chose the Stanhope Campground as it is closest to Charlottetown, the capital city.
Clearly sampling some PEI cuisine was in order so we headed to Charlottetown to Nimrods (pizza place rated as #1 restaurant in Charlottetown on Trip Advisor)
Charlottetown is enchantingly sweet. Nimrods is located on the harbor….

…specifically, on the floating harbor. I guess they ran out of harbor so they created a small floating area and put some food shacks on it – so cute.

We ordered the lobster pizza. OMG, wood fired pizza, lobster, a little pesto – what is NOT to love? Yay Trip Advisor!

Someone in this town has a sense of humor because we saw various benches with these signs on them:
Every summer (through the end of September) Charlottetown has a theater festival at the Confederation Center for the Arts. We checked the schedule and this time of year they have performances on Tuesday and Saturday nights. With no planning on our part, here we are on Tuesday so we can go!!!! We saw the musical Anne of Green Gables. The novel was written in 1905 and is set in PEI about an adopted orphan. It was delightful! I read the book as a young girl so I wished so much I could call my Mom after the play and tell her I saw it ☹ Like many moms across the world she is the one who introduced me to this book.

Another fun-filled day in Canada.
