8-11-19 Hiking Beech Mountain in Acadia National Park

After a huge camp breakfast of bacon and a veggie egg scramble we set off for a day of hiking.  Thus far, we have been extremely lucky with the weather.  It rained a little bit yesterday, but that was after we had returned from our hike so nary a drop fell on us.

Acadia does not really have any long hikes, but they do have a bunch of shorter intersecting hikes so you can string a few together to make your hike the length of your choosing.  We bought a hiking map the previous day (per the recommendation of our friendly park ranger) so can change our hiking strategy  mid-stream if we desire.

We started up Valley View – a lovely, VERY green, mossy hike with a lot of ferns.

I was a little miffed when I encountered the invitation only turn off from the hike.  Why didn’t we get an invitation?  What is on the other side of that gate? Where does that path go?  Alas, these questions will never be answered.

We got to the top of Beech Mountain, and enjoyed the lovely views.

Our hike back down the mountain (Beech mountain is only 861’ high.  These people need to come out to CO) was shorter but a lot steeper.  Tom’s new bionic knee got 1 heck of a work out!  I think his physical therapist would have been impressed.

We had a great day and feel so fortunate to be spending so much time in this beautiful area.
