8-27-19 Arriving in St. Johns

It’s a rainy day so we don’t feel as bad about possibly spending it at a car dealership.  As we drove in to St John’s we enjoyed looking at the impressive craggy landscape here. What a beautiful place. Admittedly, this picture is not the best as the lighting is bad, but I can’t have a blog entry without a photo ☹

We made it to the dealership by 11:00am for our noon appt.  However, we noticed that we had not heard the dreaded whining noise since the previous afternoon.  This isn’t good because if we are going to have car problems we want to have them while we are next to the only Acura dealer in all of Newfoundland.  Nonetheless, we went to the dealership to talk to the mechanic. You guessed it – NO NOISE.  We tried all kinds of things to get the noise to happen again: no noise.  The mechanic ventured some guesses as to what caused it.  We were kind of let down and relieved: let down because we wanted to get it fixed, but relieved because maybe it is not a real problem.  I guess only time will tell.

We decided to camp at the nearby Butter Pot Provincial Park (I have no idea where that name comes from), but we will only stay 1 night here because:

  1.  They don’t have electricity and the forecast indicates that there isn’t going to be much sun over the next several days so our solar panels won’t be able to charge our camper battery.
  2. They have a sign by all of their drinking water spigots that say “Boil water for 1 minute before using”.  That makes us really nervous.  We do not want to contaminate our water tank so I’ll  feel compelled to boil the water until it evaporates out of the pan.  Luckily, we have a full water tank and we don’t need the water at this park.

We drove around some scenic coastal roads, grabbed some lunch, bought some groceries and headed back to camp.   This Provincial park does have a laundry so we did that, Yay.

Oh.  and we grilled bratwurst for dinner so that made us happy after all!
