We in Oklahoma City so we can spend the weekend with Tom’s brother John and his wife Diana. They moved here last year so we are looking forward to seeing them in their new house.
En route we decided to take a detour to Mindenmines, MO – where Tom’s father was born and where Tom’s grandparents lived and owned a store.

It did not take long to see Mindenmines as it is a very small town that is clearly no longer prosperous ☹
Here is the house where Tom’s father was born.

Here is the house where Tom’s grandmother lived (no one is sure why she moved from the house which she owned when she had Tom’s father).

Sadly the brick store that was owned and operated for years by Tom’s grandmother (it was really important to her) is no longer there and is only an empty lot. Quite strange that the wooden houses survived, but the brick store did not…maybe there was a fire.

We arrived at John and Diana’s house and got the grand tour. Their house is quite lovely and situated on a 6-acre lot.

That night we went to the nearby Murrel’s Bar and Grill for dinner(actually 5 miles away as John and Diana live in the country). We were all a bit surprised at some of the names of the cocktails:
- Red Headed Slut
- Angry Ball
- Irish Carbomb
- Something Sweet & Strong
The next day John and Diana hosted a BBQ for people from John’s work. The food was excellent and involved lots of preparation by Diana.

The people were a lot of fun. I had so much fun I only took 1 pic of John eating:

Clearly everyone had fun including – or especially – the dogs
The next day we hung around the house and chatted and laughed. John showed off his tractor lawnmower to Tom (we have quite a wussy lawnmower for our city-yard).

Our last night together we went out for burgers. The restaurant had a retro feel to it (and signs). I was amused by this one.

I realize that “back in the day” some gas stations would advertise that, but in 2019 – at a restaurant?
Regardless we had fun and we miss them living in Denver. Why did they move so far away?
