One of the “must dos” in Gros Morne Park is to hike the Western Brook Pond trail to the boat dock and then take a boat tour of the Pond. Some of the most famous photos of Gros Morne are from there.
Not wanting to miss any “must dos” we set off for Western Brook Pond. On the way we briefly stopped at Lobster Cove Lighthouse. As you can see it was very windy there.
Insert DD at lobster cove.

Alas, no lobsters leapt in to our car at Lobster Cove (on 2nd thought – I am glad they didn’t – sounds like a horror movie) so we took off for Western Pond.
The hike is 3 km and is super boring – gravel road with trees on each side until you get to the very end and can see the pond with its magnificent towering cliffs

Soon after arriving at the dock, we stepped onto the boat and the tour began.

During our tour we saw Hanging Valley,

Ooh Ahh Falls (named after the oohs and ahhs that occur when seen)

Denim Falls,

Bear Piss Falls (no I am NOT making up that name). The falls are hard to see in this photo because you might mistake them for a cloud. They are at the top of the cliff.

And we were able to see Old Man rock (can you see the profile of a man in the rock?)

We were mesmerized by the vast cliffs. The size of them is deceiving. They rise up over 2500ft from the pond. At one point we saw another boat next to the cliffs and the boat looked like the smallest toy boat imaginable, but, of course, the boat was the same size as ours.

Right before the boat turned around to begin the return trek back to the dock we were presented with this – one of the most iconic views in Gros Morne.

And, of course, no boat trip would be complete without the obligatory photo of Tom and I.

After the boat trip we hiked back on the boring trail (even more boring the 2nd time) and spent the evening relaxing in our campsite.
